This Ashaninka icaro I learned from my Maestro Juan Flores, in Mayantuyacu in 2018. I use this icaro to open ceremonies. Here I just give a very shoft impression of this icaro. You can study the words
and use them in different ways in a song, calling for different plants to enter the space. The words 'rama rama tronkoyni' sing about a tree, plant or vine; about the trunk, the wood, the roots, the leafs, flowers, etc. The words 'Yora yora Kogoy' sing about;a flower that opens when the first teardrop falls and touches that flower.
Kamarampi or Cama Rampi, is the old Ashaninka word for ayahuasca. Ayahuasca is a fairly recent word, but the different tribes such as the Shipibo, Ashaninka, Chuar etc had their own naming. Kamarampi is one of the oldest words known for this plant medicine (over 15.000 years old). It comes from the word 'Kamaramp' which means 'to vomit'. Kamarampi is a strong purgative drink, with which the shamans from the rainforest heal. This icaro is a very old icaro to evoke the spirit of the Kamarampi and also to activate the mariacion (the effects of the spirit). Kamarampi is the first icaro that Juan Flores taught us and it still reveals his secrets step by step to this day. Normally we use this icaro in a very traditional style, but for this cd we made a modern interpretation.
We give monthly sessions in icaro singing.
